After dropping its first two games, Freedom was forced to find a new option at goalkeeper and the Patriots turned to last season's leading scorer, outside midfielder Sarah Cardozo. Since the change, Freedom is 6-1-1 and Cardozo has allowed four goals with 31 saves.

You had to make a transition to move from the midfield to goalkeeper. What has that been like?

It hasn't been easy. It's been one of the hardest things I've done, but our team needed a little bit of help in the back and I felt that as captain it was my initiative to take. Last year I was the leading goal scorer with 14 goals but I've come to like it and I'm not doing too bad.

With seven shutouts, has it seemed a natural change for you?

Our defense is really strong and we don't let many people through. I try to do what I can when I get shots on me but my defense doesn't let much through. I think that has a lot to do with my seven shutouts.

After losses to East Bay and Alonso to start the season, what has been the change since the early going?

In the first two games we played with a lot of individualism, but I think we have come to realize that this team needs to work together to win and I think we've really done that.

If you had to pick a moment in this team's season to be the story, what would it be?

When the whistle blew at the end of the Bloomingdale game and we had beaten them 4-0 on their home field, it was an amazing feeling. Emotion came over me; I almost started crying. Everyone thought we'd tie or lose, but that is where we came together.

What has been the focus of this season for your team?

We play in one of the hardest district in the state of Florida with Bloomingdale, Newsome and us, and then out of our district we've played East Bay, Alonso and Sickles, so we have had to be prepared and I think it will show when we get into districts - when we get past districts.
