After averaging 25 points and 9.5 rebounds per game last week, Saint Leo F Jordan Prais on Monday was named the Sunshine State Conference's men's basketball Player of the Week.
Prais scored a career-high 31 points, with 10 rebounds, in the Lions' 75-72 loss to Flagler on Saturday. It was his second double-double this season. He had 19 points and nine rebounds in a victory against Florida College last week.
For the season, Prais is averaging 19.5 points, good for second in the conference, and 7.8 rebounds, tied for fourth. Tampa's Jeremy Black (21.6 points, 11.2 rebounds) leads in both categories.
The Lions (4-2) are idle until Monday against West Florida at the Bowman Center.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The Lions (4-2) snapped a two-game losing streak by beating Palm Beach Atlantic 60-46 on Friday night.
Senior Amanda Holloway had 15 points, her fifth consecutive double-digit scoring game. Melissa Guerero had 14 points and nine rebounds.
Saint Leo returns to action Saturday against West Florida at the Bowman Center.
SWIMMING: Against Rollins in a dual meet Saturday in Winter Park, the women won 105-96 and the men lost 117-87.
Sophomore Erin Hotchkiss had three victories - in the 100-yard butterfly (105.20 seconds), 500 freestyle (5 minutes, 39.44 seconds) and 1,000 free (11:39.88). Freshman Alisha Adams, junior Donald Maclary and freshman Tim Olson, a former Land O' Lakes High standout, each won two events.
On Dec. 2, the women's team finished fifth and the men were sixth at the Savannah College of Art and Design College Invitational.
Both teams return to action Jan. 5 in the Daytona Invite.
AROUND CAMPUS: The softball team signed seven players during the NCAA's early signing period, headlined by Manatee Community College transfer Tiffinee Harvey, a first-team NJCAA All-American. Five other players came from Hillsborough or Pinellas County high schools. ... Sophomore David Erdman was named a second-team preseason lacrosse All-American by Face-Off Yearbook last week. The goalkeeper earned Deep South Conference Freshman of the Year honors last season. ... Saint Leo is tied for 46th in the latest NCAA Division II 2007-08 U.S. Sports Academy Director's Cup standings, tied with SSC rivals Nova Southeastern and Lynn.
