LAND O' LAKES - Former NFL running back and Pasco High standout Troy Hambrick was indicted on three counts of drug charges last week by a grand jury.
Hambrick was indicted Dec. 7 in U.S. District Court in Tampa. The indictment states that Hambrick, 31, sold 5 grams or more of crack cocaine on Sept. 7, distributed 50 grams or more of crack on Sept. 14 and distributed 50 grams or more of crack on Sept. 27.
According to Steve Cole, spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Tampa, the three charges carry a minimum of 10 years in prison and a maximum of 20 years each.
According to Cole, no arrest had been made Wednesday afternoon. Numerous phone calls attempting to reach Hambrick for comment were unsuccessful.
Hambrick, a Lacoochee native, played at the University of South Carolina for one season before transferring to Savannah State University and later played for the Dallas Cowboys (2000-03) and Arizona Cardinals (2004) in the NFL. He signed with the Utah Blaze of the Arena Football League on Nov. 7.
In September 2005, Hambrick, whose legal name is Troy Grant, was arrested on domestic abuse charges, which were dropped after prosecutors declined to file formal charges.
The 6-foot-1, 245-pound running back, who rushed for 2,179 yards and nine touchdowns in the NFL, was a key member of the 1992 Pasco High state championship football team. He graduated in 1995.
