5 Questions With Colette Eule

Colette Eule, a 5-foot-9 sophomore forward at Tampa Catholic, has helped the Crusaders to a 7-2 start. She is averaging 16 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game.

Earlier this season, Tampa Catholic lost to its rival, Academy of the Holy Names, in the final seconds. How badly did that hurt?

I wouldn't say it hurt us. Actually, I think it helped us. I think that was just what we needed. It kind of pushed us closer together and showed us what we have to do to improve. For me, personally, it was just like any other game. It always hurts to lose, especially on the last shot.

Your coach Nancy Kroll said it's not unusual for you to be the first to arrive at practice and the last to leave. Where did you get that gym-rat mentality?

I don't know if I would consider myself a gym rat. I just like to work harder to get better. And that goes back to my family and how I was raised. I was raised to work my hardest at whatever I do. And I use that lesson not only on the basketball court but in life, as well.

Do you participate in any other sport?

I've been on the swim team since my freshman year. It's a good way to keep in shape for basketball season. I'm a competitive swimmer, but I have fun with it. It's a great way to meet new people.

You've been in Tampa two years since moving from Colorado. At this time of the year, would you rather be building a snowman or a sand castle?

I would definitely have to go with the snowman. The cold weather and snow this time of year makes you believe it's Christmas time. It's harder for me to get into the Christmas spirit here. But I make it work - I just crank the Christmas songs.

We'll end with an easy one. What is your all-time favorite Christmas movie?

"A Christmas Story." There are way too many serious ones out there; I like the funny ones.
