Deputies say an ironworker drove a stolen motorcycle on several east Hillsborough County roads Thursday night at high speeds while trying to avoid being arrested on several warrants for failing to appear in court.
A deputy tried to perform a traffic stop on a motorcycle at State Road 60 and Turkey Creek Road about 8:30 p.m. The driver, Daniel M. Dixon, 31, formerly of Valrico, sped away, according to an arrest report.
Several miles away, Dixon abandoned the 2003 Kawasaki near Wheeler Road and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Dover, the report states. Deputies using a canine caught him as he fled on foot.
Investigators found a blue box on the motorcycle that contained a loaded gun and a plastic baggie holding 57 grams of methamphetamine, the report states.
Dixon was charged with grand theft, aggravated fleeing, armed trafficking and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was taken to Orient Road Jail and bail had not been set.
