LOS ANGELES - Glitter broke through the gloom of a strike-bound film business Thursday as Quentin Tarantino and friends braved the morning chill to help bestow seven Golden Globe nominations on "Atonement," pushing that love-and-war drama to the awards season's center stage.
But lots of movies shared the limelight. Breaking tradition, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which awards the Globes, spread the love around in the best dramatic picture category, citing seven films as opposed to the usual five.
Joining "Atonement" in the field were "American Gangster," about a Harlem gangster; "Eastern Promises," about Russian gangsters; "There Will Be Blood," about an oil gangster; "The Great Debaters," about Texas talk champions; "Michael Clayton," about a corporate fixer; and "No Country for Old Men," about the depredations of a maniacal killer.
