A Bartow man and his dog are being treated for rabies after being bitten by an infected raccoon.
A raccoon attacked the silky terrier mix on Tuesday. The dog belongs to Frank Andrews of 2041 E.F. Griffin Road.
Andrews tried to stop the attack and was bitten by the raccoon. He killed it and called the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
Animal control officers sent the raccoon to a state lab, and it tested positive for rabies, a viral disease that infects the central nervous system and brain and can be fatal.
