ST. PETERSBURG - Authorities are searching for a 77-year-old man with Alzheimer's who wandered from his home Thursday night.
Jack Louis Bartkovsky
Jack Louis Bartkovsky of 6285 28th Ave. N. was reported missing about 11:15 p.m. by his wife, Josephine, said St. Petersburg Police Department spokesman George Kajtsa.
Bartkovsky and his wife live there with two adult sons, one son's wife and a grandchild, Kajtsa said.
A patrol officer was dispatched to the home earlier in the evening because Bartkovsky was behaving violently toward one son, Kajtsa said.
Bartkovsky tried get in the officer's cruiser because he presumed he was being taken to jail, but the officer concluded Bartkovsky didn't meet the criteria for the state law that allows authorities to take someone into custody for 72 hours for psychiatric evaluation, Kajtsa.
Officers today were expected to check shopping malls because Bartkovsky tends to check trash bins for food, Kajtsa said. Bartkovsky apparently has flashbacks to destitute times as a child, Kajtsa said.
