A man shot and killed during a gun battle with Sarasota County sheriff's deputies late Saturday has been identified.
At 10:40 p.m., a deputy noticed Michael N. Brabazon, 39, of Sarasota, make a traffic violation in a white Chevrolet Lumina, according to a sheriff's office press release. When the deputy attempted to stop Brabazon, he fled.
Stop sticks were deployed at 17th Street and Tuttle Avenue yet the pursuit didn't end until the car stopped just east of Lockwood Ridge Road. Brabazon then got out of the car and pointed a gun at one of the six deputies on the scene. He was consequently fatally shot by the deputies, the release stated.
Witnesses said the back and front windows of Brabazon's car were shot out, according to the Sarasota Herald Tribune.
The six deputies are on routine paid leave while the incident is investigated.
