Baby Of Woman Burned In Attack Dies

The baby born from a woman who was kidnapped and burned in a robbery on Thursday in Lake Wales died early this morning.

Mike Bustamante Jr., who weighed just 1-pound, 2-ounces, died at Orlando Regional Medical Center. He was delivered more than three months premature during an emergency cesarean the night his mother was burned, according to a Lake Wales Police Department release.

His mother Juanita Luciano, 23, and his aunt Yvonne Bustamante, 26, are also at Orlando Regional in critical but stable condition. Luciano and Bustamante were burned during a robbery at the Headley Nationwide Insurance Co. office where they worked.

"Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims and their families," stated Lake Wales Police Chief Herbert Gillis in a press release. "Words cannot describe the grief, loss and sorrow the families and our community have experienced.

"Leon Davis, Jr. has taken from our community an innocent and precious life," he continued. "The members of the Lake Wales Police Department will not rest until certain and swift justice is obtained for the victims of this evil and senseless attack."

Davis, 30, is charged with the crimes against Luciano and Bustamante. He is in jail without bond on charges relating to the two women and he will be charged in the Dec. 7 murders of two Polk County BP gas station employees, said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.

The crimes were linked when the bullets used in the murder of the BP employees matched the bullets used during the Thursday attacks.

On Thursday, a prayer service will be held for Bustamante, Luciano and her son. It will take place at noon near the Headley insurance office, 124 West Central Ave., in Lake Wales. Members of the community are invited.
