Two women trapped in an overturned car were saved in Plant City by a trooper and two deputies early Sunday morning.
Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Karl MaComb and Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies Manuel Gonzalez and Larry Davis pulled driver Wendy Ocegueda and passenger Elisabeth Rodriguez out as water filled their car, according to a FHP press release.
Around 3:41 a.m., Ocegueda, 22, of Plant City, was driving eastbound on Interstate 4, east of Alexander Street, when she attempted to change lanes and lost control of her vehicle, the release stated.
Her 2007 Toyota drove onto the shoulder and overturned into a retention pond.
The car rested on the driver's side. Ocegueda's head was just above water level when Trooper MaComb arrived, the release stated.
Ocegueda and Rodriguez had minor injuries. Rodriguez was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
