TAMPA - Cold weather shelters in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties will open tonight as temperatures are again expected to plunge into the 30s, with the wind chill making it feel blow freezing.
The shelters are for the homeless and those in homes without adequate heat.
In Hillsborough, the shelters are:
* Salvation Army, 1514 N. Florida Ave., for adults only;
* Metropolitan Ministries, 2010 N. Florida Ave., for families;
* Good Samaritan Mission at Bethune Park, 5809 Edina St., Wimauma, for adults and families.
The Salvation Army and Metropolitan Ministries shelters will open after 4 p.m. The shelter in Bethune Park will open at 6 p.m. All will remain open until 8 a.m., and meals will be provided.
An after-hours number for people seeking shelter information is (813) 234-1234.
Hillsborough County and the charities operate freeze shelters when the combination of temperature and wind drops the feels-like temperature below 32 degrees.
In Pinellas County, First United Methodist Church of Tarpon Springs, 501 E. Tarpon Ave., will open at 6 p.m. and remain open until 6 or 7 a.m.
