A wreck early this morning in Largo dominoed into two more crashes, with two damaged cruisers, a DUI arrest and several injuries, according to the Largo Police Department.
Police responded to a crash in the 14400 block of U.S. 19 about 1:30 a.m. today in which a car had driven up a concrete safety barrier and knocked down a power pole.
Officer Darren Cockeram had just returned to his cruiser after directing traffic around that crash when a northbound car driven by Nicole Kaylin Chappel, 20, of 3004 Spring Oak Ave., Palm Harbor, clipped the right side of Cockeram's cruiser, sending it spinning.
As Officer Jeff Rogers directed traffic around Cockeram's cruiser, a car driven by Lowell Nottage missed Rogers and rammed his cruiser. Inside was Rogers' canine partner, Draco.
Nottage was treated at Bayfront Medical Center and was in fair condition.
Cockeram was treated at Largo Medical Center.
Draco was treated at Tampa Bay Veterinary Specialists for cuts to his face.
Chappel was charged with driving under the influence and was released from Pinellas County Jail after posting $250 bail.
Police said Nottage might be charged.
