TAMPA - A Palm Harbor man died Sunday in a traffic crash near Raymond James Stadium after being thrown off his motorcycle, police said.
Mitchell Shane Estep, 36, was southbound on North Dale Mabry Highway about 3:10 p.m. just north of West Cayuga Street when he collided with a four-door 2004 Suzuki, Tampa police said.
The Suzuki's driver, Mark Anthony Joseph Modugno, 28, of Cape Coral, was traveling north on Dale Mabry Highway and was attempting to turn west on Cayuga when the collision occurred, police said.
Southbound traffic on Dale Mabry Highway was heavy because of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game at the stadium, but motorists stopped to allow the Suzuki to turn, police said.
The southbound motorcycle moved into the turn lane and accelerated, police said. The Suzuki did not yield to the motorcycle, which crashed into the Suzuki's right side, police said.
Estep, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the bike and landed in the road. He was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The collision is under investigation.
