Top-Ranked Tar Heels Cruise Past Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Ty Lawson scored a career-high 26 points and Tyler Hansbrough had 20 points and 11 rebounds before leaving when he hit his head and No. 1 North Carolina beat Rutgers 93-71 on Sunday night.

The Tar Heels (9-0) are off to their best start since 1997-98 when they won their first 17 games on the way to the Final Four.

Hansbrough, the preseason national player of the year, tried to take a charge from Earl Pettis with 5:47 to play and the Tar Heels leading by 23 points.

Hansbrough went to the floor in a sitting position and then hit the back his head against the bottom of the basket support. He stayed down on the floor for a couple of minutes before being helped up by Coach Roy Williams and the trainer. Hansbrough was taken to a hospital for precautionary measures.

Freshman Corey Chandler had 23 points for the Scarlet Knights (7-4), who had won three of their last four, the loss coming at Nebraska.

ARIZONA 69, FRESNO STATE 50: Jerryd Bayless scored 21 points, and No. 21 Arizona (7-2) routed Fresno State (5-5) for its fourth straight victory.
Chase Budinger added 16 points and Jordan Hill finished with 15 points and nine rebounds for the Wildcats.

TEXAS A&M 64, ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 37: Josh Carter scored 16 points and Texas A&M (9-1) used stifling defense for a victory against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (4-6).

The win improves the Aggies' home record to 7-0 and breaks a three-game winning streak for Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

HAWAII-BYU 103, TAMPA 75: At Laie, Hawaii, the University of Tampa (4-2) fell to Hawaii-BYU (4-0) late Saturday.

The Spartans were led by Jeremy Black's 21 points. Johnathan Ball had 18, Chris Evans added 15 points and Chris King had 13.

Wiggins Hits Milestone For Stanford Women
STANFORD, Calif. - Candice Wiggins was simply brilliant on both ends.

Wiggins scored 21 of her 35 points in the first half, had four steals, three assists and two blocks, and No. 5 Stanford (8-1) dealt 10th-ranked Baylor its first defeat of the season with a physical 87-63 victory.

Wiggins shot 11-for-22, was two points off her career high, made nine of 12 free throws and reached 2,000 points for her career when she hit a 10-foot jumper with 5:54 remaining.

TENNESSEE 96, GONZAGA 73: Angie Bjorklund scored 23 points and Candace Parker 18 to help the top-ranked Tennessee defeat Gonzaga (6-4).

Nicky Anosike added 14 points and 11 rebounds for Tennessee (9-0).

LSU 76, LOUISIANA TECH 45: Sylvia Fowles had 16 points and eight rebounds to help No. 8 LSU (7-2) cruise past Louisiana Tech (4-6).

The Lady Tigers were never seriously threatened, taking a 40-22 halftime lead. The Lady Techsters made only a third of their first-half shots.

OKLAHOMA 66, MICHIGAN STATE 55: Amanda Thompson had 14 points and 14 rebounds to lead No. 9 Oklahoma (7-2) past No. 21 Michigan State (7-3).

OHIO STATE 71, WASHINGTON 54: Two weeks off didn't slow down No. 19 Ohio State.

Marscilla Packer scored 14 of her 18 points in a nearly flawless first half by the Buckeyes, and Ohio State (7-2) routed overmatched Washington (4-7).

TEXAS 76, LOUISIANA-LAFAYETTE 43: Carla Cortijo led Texas' up-tempo offense, scoring 14 points and adding seven assists in the No. 20 Longhorns' victory against Louisiana-Lafayette (3-5). Texas (8-2) struggled to find its shooting rhythm in the first half, but opened the second half with a 21-12 run to build an insurmountable 59-35 lead.

TAMPA 56, WEST FLORIDA 42: Sheena Walton scored 16 points and added 10 rebounds and six blocks as the University of Tampa (8-2) defeated West Florida (5-6).

Alexa Kane and Erica Woodard added 10 points apiece for the Spartans, who will enjoy a 21-day break before returning to action against Nova Southeastern on Jan. 5.

FSU 94, ALABAMA STATE 42: Five different players scored in double figures as Florida State (7-3) defeated Alabama State (2-4). Mara Freshour led the Seminoles with 16 points; Alysha Harvin added 15.

FLORIDA 80, TCU 76: Led by 21 points from Depree Bowden and a career-high 17 points from Jennifer Mossor, Florida (6-4) defeated TCU (4-6) in overtime.

The game featured 11 lead changes and 12 ties, including the 69-69 score at the end of regulation.
