TAMPA – Two days after clinching the NFC South title, the Bucs were shut out of the Pro Bowl.
Tampa Bay failed to place a player on the NFC roster for the Feb. 10 game at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu. The Bucs have had at least one participant in the Pro Bowl every season since 1996.
Outside linebacker Derrick Brooks was not named Tuesday, placing his streak of 10 consecutive Pro Bowl berths in jeopardy. Selectors chose Seattle's Julian Peterson and DeMarcus Ware as NFC starters, with Chicago's Lance Briggs in reserve.
Cornerback Ronde Barber has appeared in four Pro Bowls, including the last three, but Green Bay's Al Harris and Seattle's Marcus Trufant will start for the NFC Feb. 10, backed by Terence Newman of Dallas.
Quarterback Jeff Garcia was not selected, despite helping the Bucs to a 9-5 record, as voters chose Green Bay's Brett Favre to start, backed by Tony Romo of Dallas and Seattle's Matt Hasselbeck.
At wide receiver, Tampa Bay's Joey Galloway was denied an opportunity to play in his first Pro Bowl. Arizona's Larry Fitzgerald and Terrell Owens of Dallas will start for the NFC, backed by Green Bay's Donald Driver and Torry Holt of the Rams.
Fans, coaches and players each had input in the voting.
