Regarding "South Bay Gets OK To Move To Riverview" (Metro, Dec. 13):
It appears that someone on the Agency of Health Care Administration had their hand out.
When you look at their decision to grant South Bay Hospital permission to move from Sun City Center and end up with one hospital vs. having a second hospital on Big Bend Road, it just doesn't make any sense. Have members of the administration ever been down here during peak season? We have patients in the halls.
If the officials in Hillsborough County are correct in their forecast, South County is going to double or triple in population the next 10 to 15 years. If SBH can't handle the number of patients now, why does the state think they can when the population explodes? It's obvious to me that we need two hospitals, not one.
The other option is that we only allow a specific number of people to get sick at any given time. I just hope I'm not one of them.
