ST. LEO - The 2008 Saint Leo Athletics Hall of Fame class was announced last week, with one prominent member of the current athletic department included in the five to be enshrined by the school in March.
Athletic Director Fran Reidy, who coached the men's soccer team for 16 seasons and has held his current post since 2000, was selected by a group that includes representatives from the school's alumni, administration and faculty as well as the athletic department.
Reidy, who earned a master's degree in business administration from the school in 2002, holds the men's soccer school record for coaching victories (140) and won Sunshine State Conference coach of the year awards in 1993 and 1994.
During Reidy's time as athletic director, the school has doubled its number of intercollegiate sports offered (from eight to 16) and earned 12 of its 15 NCAA postseason tournament berths under his direction.
Former baseball standout Trevor Hall, a three time All-SSC selection and four-year starter at first base, also was selected. Hall graduated in 2002 and now lives in Jacksonville where he owns his own business.
Other inductees include 1997 graduate Tracy Roy, a two-time All-SSC softball selection, 1982 graduate John Kozak, who hit .337 in his collegiate baseball career, and 1948 graduate William Sharp, who was a four-sport star (football, baseball, basketball, track) for the school's prep teams of the 1940s.
The induction ceremony will take place on March 27 at the Saint Leo Student Community Center. Tickets to the event, which also includes dinner and a reception, can be purchased for $35 by contacting the assistant athletic director, Vicki Fredrickson, at (352) 588-7314.
