Man Who Punched Toddler's Genitals Gets Year In Jail

BRADENTON - A man who punched a 19-month-old boy in his genitals to punish him was sentenced Wednesday to a year in the Manatee County jail.

Marcus L. Anthony, 23, of St. Petersburg was arrested on an aggravated child abuse charge but pleaded no contest to a child abuse, a lesser offense.

Anthony was changing the boy's diaper when he punched the child in his genitals. Authorities said the boy suffered soft tissue damage and bruising.

The boy, who is 5 now, did not suffer permanent injury from the abuse, Assistant State Attorney Darlene Ragoonanan said in court Wednesday.

Anthony must take a parenting class and undergo a psychological evaluation, Circuit Judge Janette Dunnigan said. Anthony was ordered to serve 18 months of probation when he is released from jail.
