NEW PORT RICHEY - Myron J. Boloyan and his father had just finished restoring a 1930s Ford Speedster, one of several antique racing cars they've rebuilt together, when Boloyan polished the chrome and took it out for a ride Friday.
About 10:45 a.m., the 39-year-old New Port Richey man was driving down Little Road when he was struck by another car near Ridge Road. The impact from the crash, which was heard a mile away, ejected him from the driver's seat. He landed on the asphalt.
Boloyan was flown to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, where he remains in a coma.
His father, Myron G. Boloyan, said his family is now faced with the difficult decision of whether or not to keep him on life support. He said they're preparing for the worst.
"The neurosurgeons say he's probably not going to make it," the father said.
Boloyan was an accomplished vintage car restorer whose love of all things metal led him to become an artist. His works, made of welded steel, feature fish such as snook, reef sharks and tarpon and have been displayed at local art shows and sold online.
A fund has been set up with Bank of America to help his wife, Sherri, and their daughter, Alicia, 9. Donations should be made to the Myron Boloyan Family Assistance Fund.
