NEW PORT RICHEY - Senior G Jordan Schulman accomplished something only three other girls before her at Gulf had done.
She reached the 1,000-point mark in the Buccaneers' 61-45 win at Hudson on Dec. 11.
The Bucs presented her with a 1,000th-point ball before their game against Mitchell on Monday night.
Schulman was averaging 17.8 points per game through Gulf's 56-12 win over Springstead on Dec. 14 and was leading Pasco County in 3-point goals with 34.
Last season, Schulman won the first state 3-point shooting competition in Lakeland, beating girls from all classifications to win the title.
The other Bucs who reached the 1,000 points are Tiara Cook, Stephanie Haulster and Turquoise Sampson.
Schulman and G Nicole Adams led Gulf (9-3) in scoring with 15 points apiece in the Bucs' 42-19 win against Mitchell.
Overall, it wasn't the best shooting night for either team.
Both got a lot of looks but struggled to sink their baskets.
"We've got some kids that are banged up right now," Gulf coach Mike Quarto said. "Nicole Adams has a sore ankle, Jordan has a sore forearm but it was her 1,000-point night, she got her ball, it was a great way to beat Mitchell."
Schulman came down on her elbow early in the contest and was clutching her forearm after taking outside shots for the remainder of the game.
Quarto said they would ice it and just take it easy on her in practice because the Buccaneers travel to Springstead tonight and then to Belleview this weekend for the Lady Rattlers & Friends vs. Cancer Classic.
Mitchell coach Stephanie Koslin said the Mustangs (7-4) just had one of those nights when it came to shooting.
"We couldn't hit any shots," Koslin said. "If you can't get the ball in the basket it's not going to be good. We got outplayed and out-hustled.
"We had good looks, they just weren't falling and you have nights like that."
FLU BUG BITES GATORS: Land O' Lakes followed up the week in which it suffered its only loss of the season to Wesley Chapel by dealing with the flu bug and traveling to Sebring for a game.
About four Gators fell ill in the past week, but Coach Laurie Pacholke said the flu worked its way through the team and now all the girls are fine.
The Gators played three games last week and won all three, beating Ridgewood 45-34 and River Ridge 51-24 at home and then went to Sebring on Dec. 15 and beat the Blue Streak 38-30.
GAMES TO WATCH: It's holiday tournament time so most teams will be out of town playing in different tournaments.
Ridgewood, the lone girls team hosting a tournament, is holding the annual Ashley Morrison Shootout on Friday and Saturday.
This year on the bill is Ridgewood, Orlando Boone, Jefferson and Newberry.
The Shootout features two games a day and as always, Saturday's two games are separated by a skills competition that includes a 3-point shooting contest and a ball-handling competition.
