Hernando Sheriff Disciplines 13 For Wild High-Speed Chase

BROOKSVILLE - Hernando County Sheriff Richard Nugent is suspending a sergeant and 12 deputies for participating in a wild high-speed chase.

Nugent says the chase through Spring Hill and Royal Highlands happened after a stolen car put residents at risk.

During the chase on the night of Dec. 13, one deputy crashed and went airborne, another slammed through a fence and a third hit a sport utility vehicle. No one was seriously injured and the stolen car was caught.

The sergeant received a five-day suspension. Four deputies were suspended for multiple days, and eight other deputies received a one-day suspension.
