In the Dec. 15 letters section, there were five letters written on the subject of prisoner torture. Three of the five approved of it. I was really shocked that a majority would approve of torture.
As a survivor of the Great Depression and a World War II veteran, I consider torture disgusting, despicable and completely unacceptable. I don't care how bad the other side is, there is no valid excuse for this procedure. Has this country degenerated to the Dark Ages of dungeons and torture chambers? Remember, at the end of World War II, Japan was criticized for its treatment of prisoners and some were harshly punished for it.
In this day and age there are other means for extracting information: gases, chemicals, and even hypnosis. Of course, if all else fails a good snoot full of booze usually results in diarrhea of the mouth.
