Investigators are looking for the driver of a sport utility vehicle that seriously injured an 11-year-old Dunedin boy late Friday.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said Travis L. Craig, 11, was trying to cross Patricia Avenue at Beltrees Street about 11 p.m. Friday. A sport utility vehicle struck the boy.
Witnesses said the driver of the SUV fled the scene without stopping or slowing down. The suspect vehicle was described only as a dark color SUV, which investigators think will have front-end damage.
The boy sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries. He was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa.
Craig and a 13-year-old friend were on their way home from a nearby bowling alley when the accident happened, deputies said. The older boy had already crossed the street, and the victim was on a skateboard in the crosswalk following him.
Deputies said the area is not well lit and that the victim was wearing dark clothing.
Anyone with information about the vehicle or driver involved in this crash is asked to call Corporal Jim Piper from the Sheriff's Office at 582-6200, or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS.
