Wetherell: Fisher Won't Leave FSU For West Virginia

West Virginia officials might be interested in talking to Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher about becoming the Mountaineers' next head coach, but FSU President T.K. Wetherell says Fisher is not going anywhere.

Wetherell, on vacation in Montana, said in an email Saturday that Fisher is staying at FSU and will replace Bobby Bowden one day as the school announced last week.

"Jimbo is going to be the next coach at FSU,'' Wetherell said. "He is going to do an outstanding job. His place is FSU, not WVU. In his heart, he is a Seminole.''

Fisher's new three-year, $625,000 per season agreement to become FSU's head coach-in-waiting was finalized Monday. If Fisher even talks to a school about a new job, he owes FSU a $2.5 million buyout.

According to Saturday's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, "West Virginia's coaching search took an abrupt turn yesterday: Florida State offensive coordinator and head-coach-in-waiting Jimbo Fisher suddenly came into view as a candidate to replace new Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez.''

However, while West Virginia officials did contact Fisher's agent, Jimmy Sexton, earlier this week to ask whether Fisher was having second thoughts about his agreement with FSU in the wake of the Seminoles' current academic misconduct scandal, Fisher appears committed to his commitment to one day replace Bowden.
