TAMPA - TAMPA - A Tampa police officer shot a pit bull in the chest today after the animal and a second pit bull attacked, Tampa police say.
Officer D. C. Grau responded to 1214 E. Cayuga St. after two women reported they were afraid of two vicious stray dogs in their yard.
Grau tried escorting the women to their vehicle when the pit bulls attacked, according to Tampa police. One was biting the Taser on his waist when he drew his firearm and shot it.
Both animals backed off. Hillsborough County Animal Services used a dart to bring the second dog under control.
Animal services took custody of the dogs. Their condition wasn't immediately available.
The incident remains under investigation.
