In December 1973 I was living in a halfway house for alcoholics and I was complaining that we should have a Christmas tree. So two Al-Anon ladies brought us a little three-foot artificial tree that we could set on the mantle and all the men seemed to enjoy it. After the holidays someone took it down and put it in a shed out back of the house.
I left the halfway house in July to try to make it on my own and when Christmas was coming up I wondered if the little tree was still in the shed. When I went by the halfway house, the tree was still there and I asked the men if they wanted it. They said no so I took it home with me and now my little Christmas tree and I have been sober in AA for 35 years - One Day At A Time. My little Christmas tree has traveled over 100,000 miles in our motor home. We put it up on the dashboard every Christmas we were on the road.
Today my little Christmas tree sits on a table still shimmering brightly. It's the only Christmas tree I ever had sober.
