Two of the five horses removed from a ranch in Largo because of neglect found a home in Citrus County on Wednesday, the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Tampa Bay said.
Sammy, a 3-year-old gelding, and Aflac, a 7-year-old mare, were adopted by a couple in Citrus County, the SPCA said. They'll be able to graze on a 5.5-acre property, the SPCA said.
The SPCA rescued five malnourished horses and a donkey from the ranch in August. All of the animals were fostered back to health. The three other horses are with the Bureau of Land Management. One of those horses is being adopted.
The horses had no food, water and little shade. The donkey was found in a pen with more than a foot of fecal matter.
The animals didn't belong to the ranch owner. They were owned and boarded there by someone else, the SPCA said.
