Adrian Mata was driving a truck carrying several other men when an argument began late Saturday night that led to a shooting, Plant City police say.
Mata got out of the truck and confronted someone who was younger than 18. A second unidentified person got out of the truck and shot the minor in the upper torso with a handgun, a criminal arrest affidavit states.
Mata, a member of the Norte 14 gang, was arrested Wednesday afternoon, police said. The resident of 1612 Cedar Drive in Plant City was charged with being an accessory after the fact to attempted murder and being an accessory after the fact to aggravated child abuse.
He also was arrested on a Polk County warrant on two counts of armed kidnapping and one count each of armed robbery, armed burglary of a conveyance and attempted armed robbery on Dec. 9.
In that case, Mata and another man had guns and ordered three people to the ground during a drug deal, a Polk County Sheriff's Office report states. Mata and the man robbed them of several hundred dollars in cash and property. Then they ordered them at gunpoint into a silver van and drove them a short distance.
Mata, who goes by the aliases "Worm" and "Big Worm," was taken to Orient Road Jail today. No bail had been set.
