Oh, Aging Christmas Tree, How Shall I Be Rid Of Thee?

LAND O' LAKES - If you have a leftover Christmas tree that you don't know what to do with, Pasco County might have an answer. Through Jan. 5, people can drop off Christmas trees at eight county parks.

The trees will be recycled as mulch and used in the parks.

Last year, the county recycled 1,406 trees through the program, said Sonya Fulgham, a project clerk in the county Utilities Services department.

She said the county didn't estimate how many trees might be recycled this year.

"We can't accept artificial trees, and the live trees can't have anything on them because they're going back on the ground," Fulgham said.

People can drop off Christmas trees during normal park hours at these locations:

•Veterans Memorial Park, 14333 Hicks Road, Hudson

•Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park, 10500 Wilderness Park Road, New Port Richey

•Land O' Lakes Community Center, 5401 U.S. 41, Land O' Lakes

•Sam W. Pasco Recreational Complex, 9835 Chancey Road, Zephyrhills

•John S. Burks Memorial Park, 1322 Gene Nelson Blvd., Dade City

•Shady Hills Park, 15840 Green Glen Lane, Shady Hills

•West Pasco Class III site, 14230 Hays Road, Shady Hills

•Anclote Gulf Park, 2305 Baillie's Bluff Road, Holiday

There were just a few trees piled at the Land O' Lakes Community Center on Wednesday afternoon, but dozens of trees had been left at Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park.
