Police: Suicide Attempt Ends New Port Richey Standoff

A standoff between New Port Richey police and a suicidal man ended early this morning when the unidentified man shot himself, according to authorities.
The standoff began in a parking lot at Community Hospital on Thursday night and ended early Friday morning. The man was transported by helicopter to a different hospital and was listed in critical condition.
The only available information about him is that he is 54 and a Pasco County resident.
During the standoff, the hospital was on lockdown and employees and patients were not allowed to leave. That lockdown has been lifted. No other injuries were reported.
