Cross-Dresser Solicited Boy, Polk Deputies Say

Polk County detectives are searching for a man dressed as a woman who approached a boy on a bicycle Thursday afternoon in the Eagle Lake area and offered to perform a lewd act on the child.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Carrie Rodgers said the man was dressed as a woman with a dark brown wig pulled up in a clip, large sunglasses, and a black and white flowered sundress.

The man was driving a dark blue Jeep Liberty and pulled up alongside the youth, who was riding a bicycle between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. near East Pierce and East Bay streets, Rodgers said.

The man asked for directions, then "offered to do something to the child" during the conversation, Rodgers said. The child escaped. She declined to release the child's age but said he is a juvenile.

Investigators were checking whether a video surveillance camera in the area recorded any images of the man.
