ALAMEDA, Calif. - Oakland Raiders defensive tackle Warren Sapp was fined $75,000 on Thursday by the NFL for his confrontation with game officials that led to his ejection last week.
The former Buc avoided a suspension, however.
The league said Sapp was punished for "physical and verbal actions toward game officials that drew an unprecedented three unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and ejection from last Sunday's game."
Defensive end Derrick Burgess was also fined $25,000 for verbally abusing an official during the same sequence.
The punishments were announced after the Raiders' media availability on Thursday, so neither player nor Coach Lane Kiffin was available to comment. Both Sapp and Kiffin said previously they were not worried about a possible suspension.
BEARS: Chicago put cornerback Nathan Vasher on injured reserve, ending his season.
Vasher has been hampered by a groin injury.
CHIEFS: Brodie Croyle was able to throw without any problem Thursday, and he will probably start Sunday when Kansas City tries to snap an eight-game skid in its season finale at the Jets.
Croyle missed most of last week's game at Detroit when he bruised his throwing hand while trying to tackle a defender who was running back an interception for a touchdown.
COLTS: Eight-time Pro Bowl receiver Marvin Harrison returned to practice after missing 10 games.
Harrison took part in a full practice Thursday and may be available for limited work against Tennessee on Sunday night. Harrison has not played since Oct. 22 because of a left knee injury.
COWBOYS: Wide receiver Patrick Crayton signed a four-year deal that's worth up to $14 million, his agent said.
Crayton will receive $6 million in guaranteed money, agent Frederick Lyles said.
FALCONS: Running back Warrick Dunn doesn't want the troubled 2007 campaign to be his last in an NFL uniform.
With one more year remaining on his contract, the 32-year-old Dunn plans on playing at least one more season, according to a report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
"I can't go out like this," Dunn, who played for the Bucs from 1997-2001, told the paper. "This is not the way I think anyone should go out. Any guy who's ever thinking about retiring and had to go through a situation like this, I don't think this is the way you should go out. You need to go out on better terms. I'll definitely come back next year and play football."
GIANTS: The NFL has officially deducted 2 yards from Brandon Jacobs' rushing total in Sunday's victory at Buffalo.
Jacobs goes from 145 yards rushing to 143, and the team total drops from 291 to 289.
The 2 yards initially had been credited as fumble yardage. Because of the change, the Giants' rushing total no longer is the most in the league since 1959.
PATRIOTS: New England released linebacker Chad Brown. Brown, 36, played two games in his 15th NFL season.
STEELERS: Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger didn't practice with the starting offense for the second day in a row, a sign he is unlikely to play in the team's final regular-season game Sunday in Baltimore.
TITANS: Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth took part in his first full practice since Nov. 30 on Thursday, and he couldn't have been happier.
"I've still got to knock some of this rust off. Playing helps, but I want to get back to playing the good technique where I was at before I left," Haynesworth said.
He originally strained his right hamstring Nov. 4 against Carolina late in a game where he had a career-high three sacks. He missed three games - all Titans' losses - and has started three of the last four.
