PITTSBURGH - Sergei Gonchar made up for two misplays by scoring in overtime after Darryl Sydor had tied it late in the third period, and Pittsburgh rallied to beat Washington 4-3.
Sidney Crosby, winning his head-to-head matchup against Alex Ovechkin as usual despite Ovechkin's 26th goal, controlled the puck behind the net, carried it into the slot and faked a shot before throwing it behind him to Gonchar in the right circle for his seventh goal.
Crosby had two assists, giving him 17 points in 10 career games against Ovechkin - nine of them Penguins victories. Ovechkin has four goals and 10 points against Pittsburgh.
FLYERS 4, MAPLE LEAFS 1: Joffrey Lupul scored two goals and Marty Biron made 34 saves for Philadelphia, which snapped a season-high, six-game losing streak by beating Toronto.
Jeff Carter and Danny Briere also scored, and Randy Jones had two assists as the Flyers won for only the second time in 11 home games after opening the season 6-0 in Philadelphia.
PANTHERS 5, THRASHERS 3: Nathan Horton scored two goals for the first time since March to help Florida end a 10-game losing streak in Atlanta. Ilya Kovalchuk scored his league-leading 30th and 31st goals in the third for the Thrashers.
SENATORS 5, ISLANDERS 2: Jason Spezza scored a power-play goal for his 300th NHL point and Dany Heatley had two assists to reach 50 points this season, leading Ottawa past New York.
PREDATORS 4, BLUE JACKETS 3: Ville Koistinen's first NHL goal was a winner as Nashville edged Columbus.
AVALANCHE: Joe Sakic, 38, is scheduled to undergo hernia surgery today, and the Colorado captain will be out of action for eight to 12 weeks. Sakic has been out since Nov. 30.
