MELBOURNE - Wildlife officials are trying to determine if red tide killed six manatees this week in Brevard County.
Wendy Quigley, a spokeswoman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, says the animals are being tested.
Water in the area also is being tested.
Through November, red tide has killed at least 46 manatees this year in Florida.
Red tide is caused by a bloom of the single-celled alga Karenia brevis, which contains a powerful toxin that kills fish and other marine life.
