BELLEVIEW - Gulf point guard Nicole Adams scored 15 points, leading the Bucs girls basketball team to a 33-24 semifinal victory over Deltona Trinity Christian Academy on Friday.
Gulf's victory gives it a berth in the Lady Rattlers Friends Holiday Tournament championship game today at the Belleview High gym. The Bucs (13-3) will play Sebring today at 6 p.m. Sebring defeated Longwood Lyman 58-49 in the other semifinal game.
The game was a low-scoring affair as Trinity (8-7) played tight defense. Gulf's Jordan Schulman played despite being ill. She averages 17 points per game but scored only four points. Schulman leads the Tampa Bay area in 3-point goals but could not connect for a 3-pointer in the game.
Colleen McAuliffe added eight points and six rebounds.
Taylor Odom led Trinity Christian with 13 points before fouling out late in the game.
"We came out flat," Gulf coach Mike Quarto said. "We didn't play well. Jordan Schulman has the flu. We're staying over here. We're not used to that. Hopefully, we will get a lot of rest and come back in the championship game."
