NASHVILLE, Tenn. - With Drew Weatherford now firmly entrenched as Florida State's starting QB, Christian Ponder owning a strong grip on the backup job, and Xavier Lee's future with the team uncertain, redshirt freshman QB D'Vontrey Richardson is somewhat the forgotten man.

There are whispers Richardson is considering playing baseball full-time or possibly transferring if he is completely out of the QB picture.

Whether Richardson will ever be FSU's starting QB is uncertain, but it appears the Noles have a plan for him in Monday's Music City Bowl.

"We got him working at wide receiver and at running back, kickoffs, everything, really," FSU coach Bobby Bowden said after Saturday's practice. "He can line up as a tailback as we need him. He has got skills. I wouldn't be surprised if we hit the field for that game with them and he ain't the best athlete on the field. He is a quarterback and that is where he wants to play. That's where we will play him one day, so right now he is kind of a backup at a lot of positions."

BROWN READY TO ROLL: With the defensive line decimated by suspensions relating to the school's academic cheating scandal, Everette Brown and Alex Boston will get nearly all the snaps at defensive end. Brown, a sophomore who leads the Noles with six sacks, is excited about the opportunity.

"In high school, I played about every play, so this is like old times for me," he said. "I can't wait. I'm looking at it like an opportunity to showcase my skills and make plays. I don't look at it as a negative. If we get tired, we've got guys who can give us a blow, so that won't be a problem."

BOWL BITS: After being forced indoors by inclement weather on Friday, FSU held its final practice outdoors Saturday at Good Pasture High in suburban Nashville. "We got a lot out of it," Bowden said, adding the primary task now is for the players without much experience to learn their assignments. ... Bowden and Kentucky coach Rich Brooks will hold a joint news conference this afternoon at LP Field, where Monday's game is sold out.
