LAKELAND - Polk County deputies have found a 61-year-old woman who had been missing since Friday night.
She was found about 9:30 a.m. today wandering through a yard in her neighborhood. She is good condition with some scratches and minor bruises, deputies say.
Frances "Faye" Basel, 2118 Saxon Lane, had last been seen by her husband, Charles Basel, about 9:30 p.m. Friday when she said she was going out to get their cat, according to the Polk sheriff's office.
Sheriff's investigators say she has a history of periods of confusion and wandering away. She is 5 feet, 4 inches tall, weighs 150 pounds and has long black hair. She had been last seen wearing a cream-colored long-sleeve blouse and a woven skirt of a similar color.
Polk County deputies patrolled areas around where she went missing and in neighboring subdivisions. An air unit also searched the area, and a reverse 911 call was sent to homes and businesses.
She would not tell deputies where she had been, but "she did say that she heard helicopters and sirens and that she was 'hiding,' " a sheriff's office release said.
Deputies say she likely was outdoors and in the woods while she was missing.
She is being taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center for a physical evaluation. Her mental health also will be evaluated.
