Winthrop Upsets Miami

SUNRISE - Senior Chris Gaynor scored a career-high 21 points and Winthrop made 10 of its final 13 shots Saturday, overcoming an 11-point deficit in the second half to hand the No. 19-ranked Miami Hurricanes their first loss, 76-70.

Jack McClinton scored a season-high 30 points for Miami but committed seven turnovers in the first game of an Orange Bowl Classic doubleheader. The Hurricanes fell to 12-1, while Winthrop improved to 7-5.

KANSAS 86, YALE 53: Russell Robinson had eight steals, Darnell Jackson scored 20 points, and No. 3 Kansas (13-0) whipped visiting Yale (3-7).

UCLA 76, UC DAVIS 48: Darren Collison scored 14 points, freshman Kevin Love had 13 points and nine rebounds, and No. 5 UCLA (12-1) beat UC Davis (5-7).

DAYTON 80, PITTSBURGH 55: Brian Roberts scored 31 points as host Dayton (11-1) upset No. 6 Pittsburgh (11-1), pushing the Flyers' winning streak to 10.

MICHIGAN STATE 93, GREEN BAY 75: Raymar Morgan scored 24 points to help No. 7 Michigan State (12-1) beat visiting Green Bay (7-5).

GEORGETOWN 78, AMERICAN 51: Roy Hibbert broke out of a scoring slump with 14 points as No. 8 Georgetown (9-1) beat visiting American (7-6).

WISCONSIN 67, TEXAS 66: Wisconsin's Michael Flowers hit a long 3-pointer with 2 seconds to play, then stole Texas' inbounds pass and tossed it high in the air to run out the clock, lifting the visiting Badgers (10-2) to an upset of No. 9 Texas (11-2).

TENNESSEE 82, GONZAGA 72: JaJuan Smith scored 18 points and No. 11 Tennessee (12-1) made up for star Chris Lofton's cold shooting with its searing defense in a win against Gonzaga (9-4) in Seattle.

MARQUETTE 77, SAVANNAH STATE 37: Lazar Hayward and Dominic James each had 12 points, helping No. 12 Marquette (10-1) dominate visiting Savannah State (7-11).

INDIANA 97, CHICAGO STATE 59: Eric Gordon scored 22 points, D.J. White had 21 points and a career-high 15 rebounds and No. 13 Indiana (11-1) overwhelmed visiting Chicago State (4-12).

TEXAS A&M 83, FLORIDA A&M 54: Josh Carter scored 18 of his 20 points in the first half and No. 14 Texas A&M (12-1) beat visiting Florida A&M (3-8) for its fifth straight win. Akini Akini led Florida A&M with 10 points and six rebounds.

VANDERBILT 92, TENNESSEE-MARTIN 85: A.J. Ogilvy scored 21 points and No. 15 Vanderbilt (12-0) tied for the best start in school history by beating Tennessee-Martin (5-8).

VILLANOVA 71, LA SALLE 58: Scottie Reynolds scored 19 points and Corey Fisher added 18 to help No. 18 Villanova (10-1) beat La Salle (4-7).

CLEMSON 78, SAMFORD 45: K.C. Rivers scored 16 points and No. 21 Clemson (11-1) rebounded from its first loss of the season with a dominating, victory against Samford (5-6).

OKLAHOMA 88, WEST VIRGINIA 82: Blake Griffin scored 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds before fouling out to lead visiting Oklahoma (10-3) to a double-overtime upset of No. 23 West Virginia (10-2).

USC 70, UC RIVERSIDE 57: Freshman O.J. Mayo scored 13 of his 20 points in the second half to help No. 24 Southern California (9-3) beat visiting UC Riverside (3-8).

RHODE ISLAND 85, GEORGIA SOUTHERN 80: Will Daniels scored a season-high 28 points and No. 25 Rhode Island (13-1) beat Georgia Southern (9-3) for the Islander Invitational championship in Corpus Christi, Texas.

TAMPA 89, AUGUSTA STATE 75: Jeremy Black had team highs of 23 points and 13 rebounds to lead host Tampa (7-2) to an upset of No. 12 Augusta State (6-3).

Johnathan Ball added 15 of his 18 points in the second half while Chris King had 17 and Chris Evans 12 for Tampa.

PENN SETS MARK: Penn (4-8) set an NCAA modern-day record for the lowest first-half point total in a 60-30 loss to host Florida Gulf Coast (4-9). Penn was behind 30-6 at the half. That's the lowest by a Division I team since 1986, when the shot clock was implemented. The previous record holder was Central Michigan, which scored seven against Ohio on Jan. 14, 2006.

Women

CONNECTICUT 70, HARTFORD 24: Maya Moore scored 21 points and Tina Charles grabbed a season-high 12 rebounds to lead No. 1 Connecticut (10-0) past Hartford (10-3).

MARYLAND 89, RICHMOND 59: Marissa Coleman scored 23 points, Crystal Langhorne had 15 points and 15 rebounds and No. 5 Maryland (15-1) beat visiting Richmond (7-6).

GEORGIA 71, FLORIDA STATE 62: No. 7 Georgia (11-0) needed overtime to hold off Florida State (9-4) in the first day of the FIU Fun and Sun Classic in Miami.

SAINT JOSEPH'S 71, AUBURN 69: Amy Wold scored 17 points, Sarah Acker had 16 and Saint Joseph's (7-6) upset No. 15 Auburn (12-2) in the championship game of the Hilton Philadelphia Hawk Classic.

NOTRE DAME 82, ST. FRANCIS, PA. 39: Erica Williamson scored a career-high 16 points and added eight rebounds as No. 16 Notre Dame (11-1) dominated inside against visiting St. Francis (3-8).

OKLAHOMA STATE 85, TEXAS SOUTHERN 39: Andrea Riley scored 20 points as No. 24 Oklahoma State (9-0) beat visiting Texas Southern (2-8).

NORTH ALABAMA 76, SAINT LEO 44: Chelsey Malone scored 18 to help North Alabama (5-6) snap the Saint Leo (7-3) winning streak at four in the Marriott Shoals Holiday Classic in Florence, Ala.

WAYNE STATE 132, TEMPLE BAPTIST 13: Jasmine McCall scored 23 points in Wayne State's rout of Temple Baptist. The 119-point margin of victory was three points shy of the NCAA Division II record. West Texas A&M defeated National Christian 155-33 on Nov. 29, 2001.
