BayWalk, the retail heart of downtown St. Petersburg, is up for sale. The Sembler Co., the St. Petersburg-based developer that built the entertainment and retail complex, confirmed Thursday that it just recently began seeking suitors for the 150,000-square-foot center.
"We've just determined that, after six years, it's time to market BayWalk and let someone take it to the next level," Sembler CEO Craig Sher said. "We're proud of what we've accomplished there."
BayWalk brought a movie theater, boutiques and restaurants to downtown St. Petersburg when it opened in 2001, helping revive the formerly moribund urban environment. The complex cost $40 million to build. Sher said no one has made an offer yet for BayWalk, and it would be premature to predict what price the property would fetch now.
