Teen Arrested On School Weapon Charge To Face 26 Child Porn Counts

LAKELAND - Shawn Newberry, the 18-year-old who had an arsenal of weaponry and was arrested on a school weapon charge, was charged with 26 counts of possession of child pornography today, police said.

The images were taken from Newberry's computer after authorities confiscated it while executing a search warrant last month.

At the time of his arrest, Newberry was a student at the Life Skills Center, a charter school. He was wearing body armor at the school, police said.

Police had found that Newberry had purchased body armor, a Taser, three Kalashnikov assault rifles, a shotgun, Clear Out grenades with tubes for under-door deployment, a tactical helmet, a gas mask and about 2,000 rounds of ammunition.

Newberry is being held without bond at Polk County Jail.
