TAMPA - A head-on collision early this morning on Causeway Boulevard has killed a 24-year-old woman and injured the driver of a tanker.
The Florida Highway Patrol says that at 4:15 a.m. a white 2001 Toyota Rav4 was eastbound on Causeway between 50th and 78th streets when it crossed the centerline and struck the westbound tanker. The tanker driver, Ronald Shank, 48, of Largo, had minor injuries, Trooper Larry Coggins said.
The driver of the Rav4, whose name has not been released, died at the scene.
Traffic was diverted to alternate roads while crews remove debris. Causeway Boulevard was reopened about mid-morning.
The tanker had dropped its load and likely was headed to Port of Tampa to reload, Coggins said.
Investigators had not contacted the Toyota driver's next of kin. They were checking addresses in Wesley Chapel and Clearwater.
