The Captain, a k a Tim Young, is an entrepreneur, with The Village Market Butcher Shop, Steakhouse and Wine Bar to his name, but he's also a super Bucs fan.
He's such a super fan that in 2002 he was selected for the Visa Hall of Fans exhibit at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. To top that off, the Buccaneers were crowned the champs for the 2002 season, winning Super Bowl XXXVII. The Captain was in San Diego for all the Super Bowl festivities, meeting celebrities and getting a gift he says he'll cherish forever.
The Captain became a fan of theTampa Bay Buccaneers when the franchise began. His father was a pilot for the Minnesota Vikings and when the Bucs became an NFL team, his family moved to Tampa. The Captain makes as many games as he can, both at Raymond James Stadium and on the road.
The Captain has a passion for tailgating and uses a trailer to cart in his supplies. His tailgates, which started as a small gathering over a charcoal grill in the stadium lot, draw more than 300 people. The Captain and his first-mate, wife Christina, have won 29 tailgate contests, and are especially proud of being the 2004 winners of the Food Network national tailgate championship. The Captain changes his menu selections often and he makes a popular "secret formula" Pirate Punch. If you try the punch, make sure you have a designated driver to get you home.
The Captain also has a big heart. He adopted 75 New Orleans Saints fans after Hurricane Katrina devastated the city. He brought them to Atlanta, where he and his wife relocated five years ago, and helped them find homes and jobs. He got his neighbors to donate clothing and food and used his tailgating trailer to deliver the donations.
"Going to a Bucs game is a great outlet," he says. "Win or lose, we always have a great time. It's a chance to see all your friends, a perfect excuse to have a reunion." He added, "The food, the fun, seeing the kids and all the Pewter Nation 'super characters' — that's what made me the fan I am today."
The Captain says his biggest wish is for the Pewter Pirates to make the playoffs and make a return trip to the Super Bowl. Go, Bucs!
