NEW PORT RICHEY - Look through the lens of Diane Hardy Waller as she leads a photographic tour of selected spots around the globe through Dec. 1.
"Landscapes Evoking Spirit" kicks off with a First Friday reception from 6 to 9 tonight at downtown's Progress Energy Art Gallery, 6231 Grand Blvd., just south of Richey Suncoast Theatre. The exhibit features pictures taken in England, Germany, Austria and Indonesia, among other countries.
Travel is a passion for Waller, who heads out several times a year.
She sees each landscape as being unique and spiritual and draws from those experiences when wielding her camera.
"There are places that are awesome because of the beauty of the locale and the people that make it happen, such as Bali," Waller said.
"And the people of Myanmar are so steeped in their own spirituality that even the trees are praying.
"I find inspiration in the people and the places."
The gallery's featured artist for November grew up here, is based in the Big Apple, and also works with paints and ceramics.
Her most recent showings include the Canvas, Paper and Stone gallery in Harlem and Wachovia's Sky Lounge, also in New York.
Waller "brings a flavor of exotic places mixed with their individual spirituality to the forefront," said Karren Doll Tolliver, the Progress Energy gallery's director.
"With some of the situations in the world as they are today, it will be revealing to see the places from her point of view."
