TAMPA - Working from a black Acura sedan parked in front of the Family Dollar Store at 2525 E. Hillsborough Ave., Kenneth Jackson had a business of his own, selling counterfeit movies, according to police.
On Oct. 14, police say, someone called to complain about a man selling illegal CDs and DVDs from his car.
A police undercover unit rolled out to the scene and for about 30 minutes watched as the man made "numerous sales" out of the car, police spokesman Jared Douds said. Then they approached the man, who was identified as Jackson, 48, of 205 Francis Ave. W., according to jail records.
Jackson was holding a black binder with a catalog of the items he was selling, Douds said.
Police seized the car and the items – about 500 CDs and DVDs - but let Jackson go while they investigated.
"You can't prove they are counterfeit on the spot, so the case was turned over to detectives," Douds said.
The detectives contacted the Motion Picture Association of America and, after determining that the items were unauthorized copies, arrested Jackson yesterday.
In addition to charging Jackson with one count of unlawful acts regarding audiovisual articles, police arrested him on an outstanding warrant for being a sex offender who failed to register.
Jackson is in Orient Road Jail with no bail set.
