Largo earned its Class 5A-District 10 title the hard way, by stopping Gibbs on its own 3-yard line as the final seconds melted off the clock. Two consecutive running plays by the Gladiators were stopped cold by the Packer defensive line. The Gladiators would not have enough time to reset the ball and try for a game-tying field goal to force overtime.
Brynn Harvey's 60-yard touchdown to open the third quarter proved to be the decisive score for the Packers, who had many offensive gaffes that limited their second half production. Harvey would finish with 205 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries.
"I told my team that we would face games like this, where a team finds a way to win. We played ugly but won the football game. The defense played hard, they had some good plays," Largo coach Rick Rodriguez said.
