Defending Israel

Deaf Idiot

Regarding "Blind Hypocrisy" (Letters, Nov. 1):
Daniel Quinn compares the state of Israel's right to exist with Iran's right to develop and possess a nuclear weapon?

Has he not heard Ahmadinejad's stated objective of "wiping Israel from the page of time"? Does he actually think that Iran will develop and possess this weapon, but not use it in achieving this objective?

So, in Quinn's mind, the right of a nation to exist is equal to the right of another nation to destroy it.

I'm fine in being a blind hypocrite - better than a deaf idiot.

Survival Policy

Which of the countries, Israel or Iran, repeatedly calls for the annihilation of the other?

Someone once said if you disarmed the Arab world there would be peace in the Middle East. If you disarmed Israel, there would be no more Israel.

Faulty Logic
Daniel Quinn's letter accusing the U.S. of being hypocritical is the height of simplistic reasoning and faulty logic.

Why does Quinn specifically mention "Israel's right to exist?" I think the United States and its allies accept the right of any country to exist as long as the country does not call for the destruction of another nation. However, why should we support Iran's goal to possess nuclear weapons when its leaders have made it quite clear that they favor the annihilation if Israel?

Quinn calls our policy "hypocrisy," but he is, in fact, "blind."

Nuclear Weapons Club

Iran has been noted as currently assisting anti-government forces in Iraq by supplying increasingly more sophisticated devices used as roadside bombs. It is also known for supporting, in several ways, some factions in Syria who have been attacking Israel with several types of weapons, including Iranian made rockets aimed at Israeli-populated areas. Iran's nuclear weapons program was concealed from most before it was revealed to the world.

Since it is common knowledge that Iran supports attacks on Israel, I for one think it shows uncommon restraint on the part of Israel to not have already bombed Iran's nuclear activity sites.
