ORLANDO - A central Florida man was charged with vehicular homicide after DNA evidence showed he was driving a car that ran a red light and struck another vehicle, killing four family members, authorities said.

Kelvin Antonio Mutch Jr., 20, was charged Friday with vehicular homicide in the Aug. 6 crash, which scattered bodies across an Orange County road.
Mutch and his two passengers had delayed the Florida Highway Patrol's investigation by refusing to say who had been driving, records show.

Witnesses estimated the 1994 Chevrolet Caprice was moving at up to 80 mph in a 25-mph zone. The Caprice ran a red light and hit a 1997 Chevrolet Lumina, which struck a concrete pole, crash records show.

Mutch, of Orlando, fled the scene but was quickly caught. Passengers Patrick Willis, 20, and Earl Whittaker, 23, both of Orlando, tried to exit the car but were stopped by officers.

A Florida Department of Law Enforcement crime lab in Orlando expedited DNA testing in the case to determine who in the Caprice was driving. A smear of blood on the steering-wheel air bag belonged to Mutch, records show.

The crash killed 10-month-old Marquis Jackson; his mother, Anethea Stanley, 20; Stanley's sister, Shantrilla Stanley, 21; and their 39-year-old cousin, Rhonda Demonia. Great-grandmother Brenda Whitaker, 42, survived, but she suffered incapacitating injuries, records show.
Mutch faces up to 90 years in prison if convicted on four charges of vehicular homicide and a charge of reckless driving.
