LAKELAND - Bobby Gill of Concord, N.C., won the Robert H. Brooks Memorial Aaron's 250 at USA International Speedway on Saturday to conclude the United Speed Alliance Racing Hooters Pro Cup Series 2007 season.
Trevor Bayne finished second with Mark McFarland, James Buescher and Matt Hawkins rounding out the top five.
The win was Gill's 13th in 31 career starts at USA International and was his series-leading 46th Pro Cup career victory. With the win, Gill earned his fourth Pro Cup Series championship and $150,000 for his title efforts.
Gill, a former Tampa Bay area resident, started 33rd in the 36-car field after experiencing transmission problems during qualifying. In typical Gill fashion, he moved steadily through the field, breaking into the top 10 before 100 laps were complete. He took the lead on Lap 161 from Ben Stancill and then held off a determined Bayne as the two raced side-by-side for three laps after a late race restart before claiming the win.
Brandon Ward earned series Rookie of the Year honors over Matt Hawkins by a point.
Derrick Kelley of Auburndale, a two-time winner at USA, finished 17th.
In qualifying, Matt Carter of Denver, N.C., set a track record of 21.409 seconds at a speed of 126.115 mph around the three-quarter-mile oval to earn the pole position for the event.
