Tampa Man Arrested For Battery Against Pregnant Girlfriend, Authorites Said.

A Tampa man grabbed his pregnant girlfriend, pushed her against several walls, threw her to the ground and choked her, Tampa police say.

Steven Melendez, 26, was arrested this morning on charges of felony domestic battery by strangulation and felony aggravated battery on a pregnant female.

For the past six months, he has lived with his girlfriend, who is three months pregnant, according to an arrest report.

After throwing her to the ground, Melendez picked her up by her neck and held her to the wall by her neck, the affidavit states. Police arrived in time to hear her head hitting a wall pleading for her release.

Melendez, of 5510 N. Himes Ave., Apt. 610, was convicted of battery in 2003 and 2004, records show.

He is being held without bail in Orient Road Jail.
